Education Survey Circulating
Higher ed advocates plan to use results to influence lawmakers

East Williamson County Higher Education Center is distributing surveys throughout the area via the Internet.

According to Chuck McCarter, executive director of the East Williamson County Higher Education initiative, the surveys have been distributed through e-mail lists to several local agencies.

“It's a way to look at the enrichment needs of the community,” McCarter said.

The surveys are being distributed through organizations such as the Taylor and Hutto chambers of commerce, schools and other community groups.

McCarter said the results of the survey will be presented to legislators to indicate the need for higher education in Williamson County. Currently lawmakers are considering a local bill that would allow development of a higher education facility in East Williamson County.

McCarter said the reason he decided to distribute the surveys via e-mail is because of the quick turn-around time.

“We will need the information by (this) week,” he said.

McCarter said the results will be converted into charts to present to lawmakers.

He said the survey takes approximately three minutes to complete and will help determine the different educational needs of the community.

“It will give us a fairly comprehensive picture,” he said.

McCarter said the survey will determine what types of classes people would be interested in taking and the times that the community would prefer to have classes offered.

He said the Eastern Williamson County Higher Education Center initiative is supported by the Taylor and Hutto economic development corporations and Taylor and Hutto school districts.
