TISD to Add $50,000 to Budget
Taylor ISD plans to add $50,000 to the budget to cover the interlocal agreement with the East Williamson County Higher Education Center signed earlier this month.

Under the agreement, when Temple College finalizes financing a loan for building EWCHEC, TISD must contribute that portion. But until that happens, TISD will hang onto the money, according to TISD Business Manager Bill Mikulencak.

“Even though we appropriate the money, we might not even spend it this year,” he said. “It depends on when EWCHEC needs the money.”

The TISD Board of Trustees approved a preliminary budget of $25.5 million, a .2 percent increase from last year’s budget last year. The additional $50,000 amounts to another increase of .1 percent.

The budget increase will not affect the property tax rate, which will remain at $1.20 per $100 of appraised property value. TISD will instead pull the money out of its $6 million fund balance, or savings account.

The district will hold a public hearing Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Northside Elementary board room for public comments on the proposed budget and to answer any questions.

Mikulencak plans to present the .2 percent budget increase at the meeting, with the caveat that $50,000 will be added in the future to fund the EWCHEC agreement.
