Legacy’s Kolek Named TMS Principal
Each time an administrative vacancy is filled in Taylor ISD, another opens up as the district continues to hire from within.
It was Legacy Early College High School principal Richard Kolek’s turn Monday when he was recommended to and approved unanimously by the TISD Board of Trustees to replace Danny Ward as principal at Taylor Middle School.
“We’ve seen him work for two years now and he has shown us over at Legacy that he is very talented, organized and builds good relationships with students, teachers and parents,” said TISD superintendent Bruce Scott.
The position at Taylor Middle School became available when Ward was hired to replace Kimberly Mason as principal at the high school. Mason accepted a job as director of secondary education for the district.
Scott said the district’s familiarity with Kolek and his track record made him the right choice.
“Being able to watch him these two years has let us know he is a quality principal,” he said.
Scott said two interview committees met with Kolek along with other candidates, but he rated at the top of everyone’s list.
Kolek is the only principal the Legacy campus has had in its two-year history, and now the focus will turn to finding someone to fill that void.
“We’re going to advertise that statewide for 10 days, then we will go through a similar interviewing process as we went through this time. We’re hoping it will generate quite a bit of interest because it is such a unique program and we want to keep it going.”
Prior to being the principal at Legacy, Kolek served as principal at Rockdale Middle School.
