Council Creates EWCHEC Corporation
The Taylor City Council voted June 23 to create a corporation that would allow East Williamson County Higher Education Center to issue debt easily and with more control.

The EWCHEC corporation would provide a degree of continuity and would work as a tool to allow the center’s officials to have more control over when and how debt is issued.

“Creating this would give us more control over our project,” City Manager Jim Dunaway said.

EWCHEC partners considered issuing their debt through San Leanna Corporation which was developed for the same purpose as the EWCHEC Corporation. San Leanna would charge a fee, equal to about $6,000 to issue the debt, and it was likely there would be a time lag in getting the bonds issued.

Council members also noted issuing funding through a corporation with the same name as the center would be a benefit and would also help speed up a time sensitive project.

EWCHEC partners are hoping to have debt issued for the educational center by August.
